Cross-Border Cooperation Negotiations

Dezső Török, the Chairman of the Assembly of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County (Hungary) met István Zachariás, the vice-chairman of the Košice County Administration (Slovakia), who came to pay an official visit accompanied by the director of the Via Carpatia EGTC.
As part of their negotiations, they also discussed the improvement possibilities of cross-border cooperation.
The parties called the grouping – established by the two counties,gaining the primary role in the Small Project Fund of the Hungary-Slovakia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme – a success.
As a result, five separate information points shall be set up in our county.
The two partners also discussed the measures implemented to support the construction of the Via Carpatia transport corridor, being one of the most important goals of the grouping.
Dezső Török presented the development programme of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County in detail, mentioning the development goals, activities and specific measures applicable for the period between 2014 and 2020. The Chairman of the Assembly pointed out that as part of the Operational Programme of territorial and settlement development, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County received HUF 93 billion, thus being no. 1 in the ranking of Hungarian counties, as to the size of grants. These funds shall be used primarily for the improvement of the economy and building employment capacities. Currently, the Administration is preparing its Integrated territorial development programme.
István Zacharias emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the two counties. He briefly presented his ideas on infrastructure and tourism development, being his competence and he also mentioned the importance of small and middle-sized enterprises in the border region.
He pointed out the opportunities of European funds, applicable for the development of the two regions.
The representatives of the county administrations agreed upon specific cooperation proposals in the field of culture.
